Thanks! And yes, it's an awesome book

Felt the need to make something, but lacked the patience to draw. After several attempts that had me wanting to pitch my computer out the window, I finally succeeded.

Wow I don't quite understand how you did that. I've only seen one type of fractals and this is on a whole different level.

I love the colors and the darkness and the burning center. Made me think of a Kurzick cathedral with an ornate glass ceiling.

Thanks!

I love fractals, so I'm always looking up new techniques with them. That particular one is based on this tutorial. I use Apophysis 7x, which is completely free (and open source), and there are tons of plugins for it. It's really a lot of fun to play with

Edit: Another one that I did:

you really have a knack for these... they are awesome! I find the usual fractal stuff too in-your-face but these are so subtle and elegant

These are really cool, V. Like psychedelic stain glass windows.

Thanks for sharing the tut! Those could be really interesting to use as backgrounds or ideas for paintings. Your fractals make me think of all kinds of painting compositions that I'd never get around to anyway lol. But I can dream...

Thanks guys

And I love fractals. There's just something exhilarating about making them - art out of math! There's tons of different ways to make them and looks for them, I'm just stuck on this particular type because I've never done it before. Usually I go for the smoother type

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't feel that way each to their own, I guess xD you're certainly making it work!

It's fun

(the program does the math, not you )

So, bored and in a bad mood. Grabbed some stuff off my desk to sketch out, just quick sketches that I spent about 10 minutes each on. As you can see, I gave up on my phone.

Haha, thanks

So, was itching to draw something...went through a few ideas that were tossed out (including a sylvari and Tommy's Monk, Lucy) before I settled on this.

Yes, I am a Sailormoon fangirl. And that reference image on the side is scanned out of my own artbook (which now goes for several hundred dollars on ebay...never, ever selling that thing!)

Still a very preliminary sketch; there's stuff that I already plan on adjusting. Her right hand (which is mostly hidden) I may just remove entirely or redraw so it's resting on the balcony rail, not sure yet.

Edit: Changed things up a bit (as well as adding more detail to the dress) and I'm a lot happier with the pose now.

Not as much accomplished as I'd've liked, we lost power Tuesday night because of some storms and just got it restored this morning.

The face in the first wip looks perfect, yet you seem to let go of it a bit in the painting! You can always keep the sketch on top and block in the first colors so you have the proportions down right away. Secondly I would suggest to use more reds in the skin, I think that would add to the sweat peach look I believe Sailermoon girls are to have (I wouldn't know really, I don't know the slightest thing about Sailermoon ). Looking forward to the finished result!

Btw those fractals look really cool. Better then in the tutorial imo!

I've been keeping the lines mostly visible while painting, I've barely done any work on the face besides blocking in the main shadows I had the lines hidden right then because I had been working on the dress last (I'm just jumping all over with this) and my sketches were too messy to paint through with that.

Thanks

Did a little bit more work, mostly just did the eyes and lips and messed with the shading a bit. Trying to decide how "real" I want to go for the hair and stuff, though. Hmm.

She's looking so pretty I'm jealous of how you drew her hand so perfectly though :P

Thank you! The hand actually gave me a lot of trouble, I'm really not very good with them.

Latest update:

I haven't actually done any painting in the past couple of days, I've been working, updating my resume, and writing stuff for my GW/GW2 blog.

Thats starting to look very good verene! Her elbow, her hand, the face, they all look very real. Her chest looks a bit brought, perhaps slim it down a little bit, or more the shoulderclothparts very puffy so that her body might look smaller.
